National Mole Day! Excitement!

Yes, today was National Mole Day. Like, the unit, not the animal. How exciting is that!! And that's just ONE of the exciting chemistry facts I found online yesterday. You know, it's pretty hard to be excited about chemistry. Especially when your teacher won't let you throw a class party to celebrate National Mole Day. Really. Some people!

You know, you'd think that since it's now October, and it's actually cold out side, they'd heat my school. But no. They don't. Are they TRYING to freeze me to death? Perhaps. Or maybe they're just cheap. Who knows what goes through our educators minds. I don't even think I want to know...

I do know that I think today should be National Complaint Day. Because I am feeling extra whiny.

Soundtrack Obsessed.

Lately, I've become a bit soundtrack obsessed. I LOVE movie scores... especially the Lord of the Rings and Pirates ones. I like listening to them while studying... it helps me memorize material for some weird reason. So I was wondering, does anyone know of any other good movie scores?

Also, I have an awesome book to tell you about. The Book of Michael tells the story a boy accused of murdering his girlfriend. Although he is innocent, he is found guilty and sent to an adult prison; six months later, the real killer comes forward and Michael is released. This book focuses mainly on him trying to heal and move on in life. It was really good, but it had some mature content in it (drugs, sex, etc.). I wouldn't recommend it to anyone under 14.

And lastly, planning on going to the movies with 22 other people is a lot of work. A LOT. Just in case you didn't all know. And now I'm super tired so I'm going to bed. :D

Cybele's Secret

This novel is a companion to Wildwood Dancing, a parody of the twelve dancing princesses. Cybele's Secret focuses on Paula, the second youngest and scholar of the family. She accompanies her father, a merchant, on a trading voyage to Istanbul. Here they intend to purchase the secret gift of Cybele, an ancient goddess worshiped long ago. It soon becomes clear upon arrival that their mission is a dangerous one, as they discover their colleague has been murdered. Rumours of the revival of the old pagan cult of Cybele circulate throughout the city, and Paula finds herself drawn to two very different men; a wealthy captain and the gentle man hired to protect her. As well, Paula begins to receive mysterious, other-worldly signs about the sacred artifact, and, along with her faithful bodyguard Stoyan, she struggles to decode them and discover Cybele's secret.

This book is MARVELOUS!! Everything about it drew me in. The characters were well rounded and felt so relatable and lovable. I found my self reading not only because the plot was good, but because the characters were so interesting. The setting, in Istanbul, was very vivid. Often when I'm reading a novel placed in another country, I have a hard time getting a good visual of the location in my head, but I had no problems with that this time. It was very easy to picture where Paula was and this led to a better understanding of the culture there. This book had just the right balance of mystery, adventure, suspense and romance. I couldn't put it down. I was up until 3:44 am reading it. Yes, I was very tired the next morning. Haha. But it was totally worth it!

On a side note, I would like to ask you to keep a friend of mine in your prayers, as her family is going through a hard time right now. Her dad is very sick, and they can't discover what is causing his illness. I would be so grateful if you would say a prayer for them.

You know something is wrong when...

You know something is wrong when you go into your high school washroom and see a bunch of girls lined up in front of the mirror brushing their eyelashes. Seriously. What is this world coming too?! Maybe I'm crazy, but I can usually get through the day without brushing my eyelashes. Actually, I NEVER brush my eyelashes (*cue shocked gasps*). Because guess what? They look EXACTLY the same after you've brushed them as they did before.

I got Cybele's Secret from the library, and I can't wait to read it. Wildwood Dancing was so good... this one looks amazing too. Anyone read it yet?

I'm Back

So I haven't died (yay!) or moved to Honolulu or anything like that. I've just been really, really busy the last two weeks or so. Mostly with school work. Yet I have found time to write tonight, when I have a massive biology test this Tuesday. Fascinating, isn't it?

Do you want to know something disgusting? Brisinger is out now. Do you want to know something even more disgusting? He's going to write ANOTHER BOOK. Apparently he hasn't plagiarized enough famous works yet. Though, something good has come out of this pathetic excuse for a series. Just check out the negative reviews on Amazon and you'll see what I mean. I had a good laugh reading them. Though apparantely some people don't mind at all that the author steals from Star Wars and LOTR.

Miss Invisible

I am so in love with this song right now.
